Afternoon Resident
The "Are You Mate Enough?" campaign is a recurring initiative supported by West Midlands Police (WMP) to encourage friends to intervene and stop someone from drink driving. In Wednesfield and Heath Town, this message is often shared during Spring Period (Operation Limit) or major sporting events.
How to "Have a Word" Safely If you are out in Wednesfield or Heath Town and suspect a friend is about to drive under the influence, WMP and road safety partners suggest: Intervene Early: Don't wait until they are at the car; have the conversation while they are still at the bar or party. Offer Alternatives: Suggest sharing a taxi, using public transport, or offering them a place to stay. Be Firm but Calm: Stay respectful to avoid a confrontation, but be clear that you won't let them drive. The "Morning After": Remind them that they may still be over the limit the next morning, as alcohol takes time to leave the system.
Reporting Drink Driving in Your Area If your intervention doesn't work and someone gets behind the wheel: In Progress: If you see someone drink driving right now in Wednesfield or Heath Town, call 999 immediately. Regular Offenders: If you know someone who regularly drink drives, you can report them 100% anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Submit Footage: If you have dashcam footage of dangerous driving related to drink or drugs, you can upload it to Operation Snap. WMP Road Safety Activities The Wolverhampton Road Safety Team frequently conducts "Op Limit" patrols around major routes like the A460 (Cannock Road) and near local pubs in Wednesfield to conduct random breath tests and educate drivers.
